In a move that has iPad owners everywhere breathing a huge sigh of “it’s about time,” Apple released iOS 4.2 for the iPad (and iPhone) today. As always, all you need to do to get it set up on your iPad is to plug it into iTunes and install the update. Be sure you back up any non-transferred purchases, and get ready to enjoy pretty much all the same goodness that iPhone users have had for months. My favorite features (by far) are multitasking and the ability to create folders.
The initial iOS 4.2 updated was scheduled to be released “this fall” according to Steve Jobs, but then fall turned into November and, for many iPad owners, November dragged on and on and on… Since many iPad owners also own iPhones, many felt frustrated by the lack of functionality moving from one device to the other. But after a few minutes of your time, your wait can be over today.
As you can see, the update will take around 10 minutes to download (depending on your internet connection, of course), then it takes around another 10-15 minutes to install on your iPad or iPhone.
Please share your experience with the update in the comments.
